OnePlus 12R review in 5 points: Flagship-killer but some compromises too

The OnePlus 12R features a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. It also has 10-bit color and HDR10+ support. Reviews say the display is vibrant, bright and smooth. Some people also say that the display is great for gaming.

DESIGN

The OnePlus 12R looks similar to the OnePlus 12 and its precursors. I have two effects two highlights. One, I find the design distinctive, its blue shade which I reviewed is spot on and the quality of its shape is impeccable. The frosted, almost metallic, finish of the reverse cover looks perfectly nice. The camera still has a glass top which is glossy and has a glossy finish. This makes the camera module resemble a precious watch dial with a jewel finish. Two, the components used to build the OnePlus 12R are clearly a step down from what you'll find in the pricier OnePlus 12. However, the 12R still gets Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 cover on the front and IP64 standing.

DISPLAY

Still, with a vibrant ground display coupled with good speakers, the OnePlus 12R has you covered if you want a phone that offers clear. The phone features a large 6.78-inch AMOLED display with curved edges. It is unimaginable to have such a great display in a phone at such a price. It's vibrant, extremely bright and smooth with a 120Hz refresh. In other words, the display on the 12R is completely flagship-grade. The OnePlus 12R also has an under-display point detector and a faster face unlock point, making it easier to use.

PERFORMANCE
The OnePlus 12R is a performance hustler. With its Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset it delivers a satisfying experience in smooth multitasking and gaming. The good thing is that with really significant performance, the device stays cool during long gaming sessions due to its effective heat management. The 12R also uses AI RAM Acceleration and Live Sync Point to optimize RAM operation, enabling flawless app switching and harmonious performance over time.

BATTERY
Along with the display and performance, battery life is another area where the OnePlus 12R puts many other top phones, some flagship phones in fact, to shame. The smartphone has a 5500mAh battery, which lasts for a full day with moderate operation. The battery can be recharged quickly with the 100W SUPERVOOC charging that comes in the box. How quickly? Well it goes from 0-100 percent in about 25-30 twinkles.

CAMERA

Compared to the OnePlus 12, the cameras on the OnePlus 12R are easily more modest and downmarket. For example, it doesn't have the same Hasselblad tuning and color intelligence that pricier OnePlus phones have. Despite this, the main 50-megapixel camera on the OnePlus 12R is fantastic in every way. The main camera captures rich detail and vibrant colors in optimal lighting conditions, although I've also found that sometimes it produces overly saturated colors. In low light, performance gradually degrades
But not in a scary way. In fact, the OnePlus 12R's main camera is one of the most capable at this price point, In low light, photos come out with vibrant colors and plenty of detail.

OnePlus 12R review: Should you buy it?

Yes. However, Rs 60,000 or Rs 80,000, if you are looking to get a flagship grade phone without spending Rs 60 thousand. Of course, this is a Rs 39,999 phone, so the stakes aren't too high. But despite some caveats, it is safe to say that the OnePlus 12R is a true flagship-killer, and the best budget-friendly and stylish phone in India at the moment.
